Rhapsody to Gain Yahoo Music Unlimited Customers

Wednesday February 6, 2008

With the recent news of Microsoft’s $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo, it comes as no surprise to learn that the Yahoo Music Unlimited service is to cease. For its subscribers though, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Users of Yahoo's digital music service will slowly be migrated to Rhapsody. This will probably please the majority of Yahoo's customers who have seen a stagnant service lose its 'to go' service.

Another interesting news snippet is that prior to this Yahoo acquired FoxyTunes. This is a media plug-in that is compatible with many Internet browsers. FoxyTunes gives you media player control and enables the searching of lyrics, covers, videos, and more while you surf the net.

Consult the Top 5 Digital Music Services for more information on where to get your music and videos.

Hi Mark

Would you like to cover digital music service being offered by Nokia ( nokia music store ) , Motorola (Soundbuzz.com ) and Sony Ericsson(Play Now ) how will it affect the digital music industry ? Will these mobile companies will have to take advertising led business model ? Google has also entered in this digital music business …is this an issue of threat to mobile handset companies ? Do you see some tie ups in future with Google ?

Deepak,
Cell phone digital music services is another area that I want to cover in the near future. You are quite right to point out the growing number of cell phone music services and question what the future trends may be. Thanks for your valued suggestions!

Thanks for the information. I have a Yahoo Music Service paid for an entire year in advance but have not received any information on this. You would think they would e-mail their subscribers. I also havde Rhapsody. It explains why my Yahoo service has been so poor and haven’t received any help that is why I have turned back to Rhapsody. Will we lose our music that we purchased through Yahoo? How will the remainder of our subscription be handled? I have already paid in advance for Yahoo and have paid for Rhapsody too. Thanks! Angel

Angel,
According to Yahoo, a “simple click-through process” will migrate you to Rhapsody and re-generate your existing library. As far as subscriptions go, it remains to be seen how they are going to handle that one. All this is going to happen in the middle of this year so there’s time yet to do further blogs when news trickles out.
