New Music Store to Launch for the BlackBerry

Wednesday March 12, 2008

Puretracks have announced that it is to launch a DRM-free music store for BlackBerry smartphones on April 1st. The BlackBerry models that will initially be able to access the service are, Curve, Pearl, and the 8800 series. Research in Motion, the makers of the BlackBerry, are clearly focusing on mainstream smartphone users to gain more market share and compete with Apple's iPhone in particular.

The Puretracks BlackBerry music service will provide songs at 64 Kbps to download in the AAC and HE-AAC (High Efficiency AAC) formats. The United States will be first to get the new mobile service which will have music from record labels such as, EMI, Universal Music Group, Warner, Sony BMG, and other independent labels.
