Create Your Own Digital Music with Laser Beamz

Wednesday May 21, 2008

Beamz Interactive, Inc. has produced an amazing futuristic gadget that will enable you to make your own digital music with lasers and amaze your friends and family. The great thing about the Beamz music system is that you don't need to know how to play a musical instrument to produce your own unique music.

The device plugs into a USB port and consists of six laser beams that are each assigned a separate sound via software. By cutting each laser beam with your hands (reminds me of Jean Michel Jarre and his Laser Harp), you can play a stream of notes that are guaranteed to be in sync and in tune with the song that is playing. The Beamz comes complete with 30 songs in 19 musical genres which will appeal to a wide audience; more songs are available from www.thebeamz.com for $1.99 each.

The software, which is at present only available for Windows-based computers, features the creation of playlists so that you can build custom lists of songs. The software also makes it possible for you to record your performances by digitally encoding the sound into either WAV or WMA formats. This is a great feature that you can use to transfer your masterpieces onto MP3 player etc.

The Beamz music system is available online from www.sharperimage.com, priced $599.95

To be fair, you can not really “make your own” music with this thing. It is not an instrument and comes with prerecorded sounds, all of which sound terribly dated. Also, the $600 price tag on this thing boggles the mind.
