Nextar's new portable media player which is due to go on sale in Q2 of this year is a widescreen device that has been touted by its makers as a personal home theater. As well as MP3 and WMA audio format support, the unit also features: video and photo viewing, an FM radio that you can record, an integrated voice recorder, Micro-SD media slot, and a built-in speaker for use without earphones.
The unit's display screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 which will no doubt appeal to consumers who want a media player to view video in a similar way to their widescreen television at home. The unit is 0.25 inches thick and weighs in at 1.8 ounces which makes it highly portable. The main specifications are as follows:
- Display: widescreen 2.8" TFT (resolution @ 400 x 240)
- Power source: rechargeable lithium-ion battery (8 hours for music / 3 hours for video)
- Supported video/photo formats: AVI (video conversion software included), JPG, BMP, GIF
- Supported audio formats: MP3, WMA
- Capacity and Pricing: 2GB - $99.99 / 4GB - $119.99 / 8GB - $149.99
