In a bid to gain more market share in the highly competitive digital music downloads sector, Amazon has launched a budget MP3 store where music downloads can be purchased for a keen 69 cents each. Surprisingly, these cut-price songs aren't old back catalog tracks that you might expect, but best sellers. In contrast, prices for top sellers on digital music services such as iTunes are typically far higher -- could this be the start of another price war?
According to the best new songs list on the Amazon MP3 $0.69 Store, the top songs being offered at the moment include: E.T. (Katy Perry), On the Floor (Jennifer Lopez), and Born This Way (Lady Gaga). This is a significantly lower price point when compared to the iTunes Store's typical $1.29 offering.
At the end of March, the company launched its Cloud Drive service, beating Apple and Google in the race to be the first major online retailer to offer online storage space . In this latest move, Amazon seems to be trying to raise the profile of its e-commerce service once again by capitalizing on their recent high profile Cloud Drive launch.
