The Best 5 Social Music Sites: Social Networking Music Sites

Some of the top free digital music services to use for social networking

The problem with most of the top social networking sites is that they aren't very music focused. This can be frustrating to the music fan as this is a great way to be social! Sharing your musical tastes with others is a fun way to discover new music and friends too. This article focuses on some of the best social music sites (in no particular order) on the Internet for music sharing and listening to your friends music.

1. MeeMix

Meemix is an Internet radio station that is similar to other services such as Pandora and Last.fm. It provides a good online community where you can share your taste in music; you can also share your discoveries via other online social networks like Twitter, Facebook, or even just use good old email to tell your friends.

2. Maestro.fm

Maestro.fm is a streaming music site that has a good social music network. Not only can you search for new music, connect with friends, and share playlists, but it also gives you the ability to store your own digital music library in the cloud. You can then listen to and share you own music anywhere in the world.

3. Last.fm

Last.fm has a large library of music, videos, and images with the all-important social networking element; you can connect with people who have similar tastes. An interesting feature of Last.fm for working with your favorite music is 'Scrobbling'. This function allows you (via a small widget download) to automatically add tracks to your Last.fm playlist while listening to music on your computer or iPod.

4. Pandora

With the ability to import your Facebook profile into Pandora, you can listen to your friends music and share your discoveries with them too. Pandora is an intelligent Internet radio service that plays music based on your feedback. Once you have entered an artist's name or a song title, Pandora automatically suggests similar tracks which you can agree with, or reject; Pandora will remember your answers and fine-tune its subsequent recommendations. The only downside is that Pandora is at present only available in the United States.

5. Worldsings

Even though Worldsings focuses on music videos, it's got a good social element to it. By using this service, you can watch free streaming music videos, create your own profile page, and connect with other users via social networking tools. The service also gets you involved in the community by giving you the opportunity to vote for your favorite artists who could win cash prizes.
