iTunes 7.x:
From the main menu (situated at the top of the screen) click on the File tab and select Back Up to Disc from the pop-up menu.
iTunes 8.x:
From the main menu (situated at the top of the screen) click on the File tab and select Library, followed by Back Up to Disc from the pop-up menu.
A dialog box will appear asking you to select the type of backup you want. The options available to you are:
- Backup entire iTunes library and playlists.
- Backup only iTunes Store purchases.
There is a check box underneath the two backup options that allows you to only archive the items in your library that have been added or modified since the last backup. This is known as an incremental backup and is useful to minimize the storage space required.
Once you have made your selections, click the Backup button.
Insert a blank disc (CD/DVD) into your optical drive.
Wait for the backup process to complete.
Tips:
Depending on how large your library is, further media discs may be required to complete the backup process.
The information that is backed up onto disc is stored as data and not in a format that is compatible with CD and DVD players; this archived data is only useful to restore your library.
