How to View Song Lyrics in Windows Media Player: Free Lyrics For Your Songs

By , About.com Guide

If you're tired of humming to your favorite songs because you don't know the words, then why not have some fun by learning the lyrics. Instead of mumbling your way through each song, you can use a a free lyrics plugin for Windows Media Player to automatically view the words as the song plays.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Installation / Setup Time - 5 Mins Max.

Here's How:

  1. Windows Media Player doesn't natively support the viewing of song lyrics and so you need to download a small plugin. One of the best free plugins for this task is the freeware program, Lyrics Plugin. You can get the latest version from Softonic.

  2. Install Lyrics Plugin and when prompted, click the Yes button to launch Windows Media Player.

  3. Play a song or playlist in your Windows Media Player library and make sure the Now Playing tab is selected -- this is so you can see the lyrics for the track that is currently playing. Also make sure the Lyrics Plugin is activated by clicking Tools > Plug-in and ensuring that the Lyrics Plugin has got a check mark next to it.

  4. If you want to customize how Lyrics Plugin displays text and the colors used, scroll down to the bottom of the lyrics screen and click the Configure hyperlink. Once you have tweaked the settings, just click on the Save Changes button to save your settings.

  5. Some songs that you play may not have any lyrics. You can enter this information by clicking on the Edit button at the bottom of the Lyrics Plugin screen. Once you have entered the information, click on the Save Changes button. To help you find the missing text using the Google search engine, click on the Search Google hyperlink on the Lyrics Plugin main screen.
