My Digital Music Disaster Story
I had downloaded a load of music from I-tunes over the last year and I did a whole backup of my music on a set of CD's for my I-Tunes library, well I decided to redo my computer and re-install my operating system. Well, needless to say, after my computer was done I Re-Installed I-Tunes and tried to Re-Install all of my music and I got down to the last 5 CD's and the computer said that there was an error. Well I could not believe this there where at least a thousand dollars worth of music on these CD's and I could not retrieve at least $350.00 worth of my "LEGAL downloading" I was shocked I could do nothing all Gone.
What I tried in order to recover my files
Well I repeatedly tried, and tried and tried to reinstall these files but with little luck, I just went to the local music store even-though it took a lot of money to replace the music I lost I went and purchased used CD's that way I would always have it and not have to worry about this disaster again. I went to a local hasting because they sell used CD's fairly cheap, I scoured the local pawnshops, I looked on E-Bay, Crags-list and found a lot there, but I also looked at Wal-Mart and K-Mart because most CD's can be bought for cheap because of the digital downloading most CD's can be purchased for $5.99 or less my CD Library grew again, but I will always have that music and if they get scratched you can always get them fixed these days, but back on the subject, I did all of that to get my music back I even looked at local second hand store's and they had some of the older stuff, well I also searched for sites like vinyl revolution and they had a lot of it. They are a company the restores older records and cleans the sound up so that they can be put on CD and played in your CD player. Now! if I ever loose any of my music again I have a physical backup of them that can be put on my computer, and you are allowed to do this because the copyright laws state, even though I'm not an attorney. The copyright laws state that as long as you have a physical copy of the CD and you own an original copy you are allowed to have one backup copy of any CD that you purchased, and you can put it into your I-Tunes library as long as you are the original owner of the music. Just do not share it because that could get you into some trouble if you enable that feature on your computer. Well, after all that I looked through all my jump drives and guess what? I found all of my music that I had backed up on an 8-GB jump drive so now I have 2 copy's of everything. I copied them from my original I-Tunes library without using the backup feature on I-Tunes and copied them in the original state as an M4a file and restored everything to my I-Tunes library and now I have all of my music twice. Now, what I did is went and purchased a 1 terabyte hard drive and another 500 Gig Hard Drive "External" and I backup everything weekly in a folder on my terabyte hard drive and after I'm done I put this drive in a safe place where it will not get messed up that way I have everything I paid for and will never run into a disaster again with this type of problem. I hope that I helped anyone.
